Business Tax Return Pricing Questions

Business tax return pricing depends heavily on the quality of the accounting records and the reporting required on the federal return. A straightforward return with complete books is materially different from a return requiring bookkeeping reconstruction or balance-sheet reconciliation.

Why Is a Balance-Sheet Return More Expensive?

A return requiring Schedule L generally requires beginning and ending balance-sheet accounts to agree with the accounting records. The return may also require book-to-tax reconciliation through Schedules M-1 and M-2 or related tax workpapers. That additional accounting review increases the preparation work.

Does the Fixed Fee Include Bookkeeping Cleanup?

No. Fixed-fee business return pricing assumes the client provides complete and reconciled books. Cleanup, reconstruction, unreconciled accounts or missing records are separately scoped.

What Can Increase the Cost of a Business Return?

  • Schedule L and balance-sheet reporting.
  • Book-to-tax reconciliation issues.
  • Multiple states.
  • Ownership changes or complex partner/shareholder basis.
  • Special allocations or unusual elections.
  • Bookkeeping cleanup or reconstruction.
